Property Details

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque mountain village of Kaapsehoop, lies a gem of a restaurant waiting for its next owner to create the following chapter in culinary artistry. From the moment you cross the threshold adorned with intricate inlay artwork, you'll be enveloped in the warm embrace of this artist’s cafe.

This quaint eatery is renowned for its country home-style cuisine with a delightful German twist, a culinary fusion that captures the essence of comfort and flavour. Kaapsehoop itself is a haven for nature enthusiasts, perched atop a mountain with sweeping views of the high grassy plains. Wild horses roam freely, adding to the enchanting ambiance of this rustic town where jackal serenade the night. Kaapsehoop is well known for offering a rustic country escape, and is currently experiencing a very steady growth as a popular tourism destination in Mpumalanga, RSA.

The restaurant was opened in 2011 by artist couple Charl and Andrea Fourie, and is currently run by their chef-daughter Chevonne and a well-trained team of local staff.

Step inside, and you'll find seating for 20, perfect for those chilly, misty days when the pots of Gluhwein steam on the crackling coal stoves. During warmer days, the 40-seater covered veranda offers an inviting spot to relish the scenic views over the Blue Swallow Reserve. Venture further into the garden, where a covered 70-seater entertainment arena offers live music events from the elevated stage.

The garden is seasonally abundant, with a majestic maple tree, tree ferns, roses, and proteas lending their natural beauty to the ambiance. Cement benches, adorned with greenstone inlays, provide the perfect perch to savour the fresh mountain air. Vegetable and herb gardens surround the restaurant, supplementing the kitchen with herbs, lettuces, flowers and vegetables.

In the kitchen, rustic charm meets modern efficiency, with well-equipped spaces including an extractor fan, stoves, fridges, ovens, and a stocked pantry. An inhouse bakery supplies freshly baked sourdough breads, burger rolls, patisserie and cakes.

The restaurant is filled with eclectic handmade and antique furniture, creating a Bohemian Steam-punk style. Above, arty handmade chandeliers hang from the ceiling, casting a bohemian vibe over the dining area. Local art and -craft items displayed are for sale, and the well-stocked little shop is selling homemade produce, which adds to an additional income.

The building hosts the restaurant on the ground floor, and offers a charming three-bedroom family living quarters on the first floor. A spacious lounge area offers space for private dining facilities with a small kitchenette. A walk-in cupboard offers loads of space for storage, and an adjoining bathroom offers a shower, antique bath, toilet and basin. The unit offers perfectly spacious onsite accommodation for an owner family, a manager and / or staff.

A large solar installation ensures uninterrupted running of the business and private life, and electricity is supplied directly by Eskom. A fully integrated security system with alarms and cameras adds to the peace of mind. Private parking for two vehicles is available on site in a lock-up covered garage. A borehole provides water to tanks on the premises.

This beloved and well-established restaurant is available for sale as a turnkey operation, offering a rare opportunity for an art- and culinary lover to settle in a small, charming village.
